Jessica Jones Not Just for Marvel Fans
Netflix premiered Jessica Jones late November 2015, and I am finally marathoned the 1st season. I heard the buzz surrounding the show but with school, work, and other obligations I didn’t have the time to sit down and watch until now. I was not familiar with Marvel superhero Jessica Jones, yet I still managed to binge watch this show. So even if you are not a fan or don’t know who Jessica Jones is I think you should check it out.
Krysten Ritter stars as Jessica Jones, a former superhero who opens her own detective agency after an end to her superhero career. The series’ noir tone, approach to sexuality and coverage of darker topics such as rape, assault and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) make this show binge-worthy. I had quite a few 3 a.m.
nights mornings watching episode after episode. If you like crime fighting, or psychological thrillers, or superheroes then this show is for you.
I doubt I will pick up the comics (maybe the graphic novels though), but I’ll definitely be staying tuned for season 2, if and when that happens. UPDATE: Jessica Jones is renewed for the 2nd season!!!! In season 1, Jessica Jones fights back at her tormenter Kilgrave and it’s equally parts terrifying and creepy. Since I was not familiar with the comic I had no idea about Kilgrave’s character and that brought quite a spin to the first episode. I’m pretty sure that Kilgrave was not the focus in the comics, but I was happy Kilgrave wasn’t killed off in the first few episodes and that each episode opened up more of the backstory about her relationship with Kilgrave. David Tennant does an excellent job of playing Kilgrave. They really did round up the perfect cast. Season 1 of Jessica Jones is currently available on Netflix. There are 13 episodes.
