How I Celebrated National Book Lovers Day 2016

Today August 9th, 2016 is National Book Lovers Day. Bibliophiles everywhere are celebrating our love of books and reading. Yes, we celebrate every day by buying books, reading books, taking pictures of books, working with authors and publishers to read, review, and promote books and generally just appreciating books for all they have done for us, will do for us, and will do for generations.

Here are a few things I did to celebrate:

#1. Unhauled some books. You’re probably thinking, “Gwen what in the world are you doing getting rid of books…. it’s National Book Lovers Day!!” The answer is quite simple. I have a healthy physical to be read pile. I am constantly buying and receiving new books. There’s no way I can get to all of them. What better way to spread the love than to give them away to someone that is dying to get their hands on possibly one of the books I exchanged at a local book exchange store?

#2. I signed up for the August OwlCrate subscription box. I won’t receive it until later this month, but when I do I’ll be sure to share the awesomeness with you. The theme is “Fast Times at YA High” and it’s going to include some Harry Potter and Rainbow Rowell inspired goodies.

#3. I donated 16 books to my local library which are resold to the public. They charge 50 cents for paperbacks, $1 for children’s books and $2 for hardcovers. I often purchase from library book sales so it’s a great way to give back and continue the bookish cycle.

#4. I borrowed a book from the library while I was there. I picked up The Naked Kitchen: veggie burger book by Sarah Davies and Kristy Taylor. I have been loving veggie burgers lately and would love to make my own. One of these recipes is sure to be a hit!

#5. I read/am reading. I am currently reading Hollow City by Ransom Riggs and I am enjoying it and excited to see what happens next. If you missed my review for Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children here’s a handy link to that.

#6. I took this awesome photo this morning for my Instagram. Even though I had to take 32 books off my shelves which I just cleaned last night – it was worth it. After said photo shoot the books went promptly back in their spot on the shelves and all is right with the world again. At least in the mind of a book lover.

So there you have it. A few of the things I did to celebrate National Book Lovers Day 2016. Did you do anything special? Also let me know what you’re currently reading and what your last 5-star rated book was.
