February 2017 Once Upon a Book Club | From Sand and Ash
Before we get into the unboxing portion I wanted to let you know that I am behind on these subscription box posts so you will be seeing a lot of them over the next few days.
I began my subscription with Once Upon A Book Club after I tried the November 2016 box on a whim when they offered a black Friday deal on their left over boxes. Shortly after that I signed up and this is the second box I received. What I love about Once Upon A Book Club is the reading experience. If you know anything about subscription box companies most of them send themed goodies or unrelated goodies. For example: in my Wonderland box from Owlcrate I received Alice in Wonderland inspired goodies along with Heartless by Marissa Meyer. This subscription is different! It sends you 3-5 corresponding gifts to match a quote/item mentioned in the book that you open as you get to the specific page the item is mentioned on. It’s a very unique concept which heightens the reading experience. It aids the reader to be immersed in the story and the world they are reading about. It’s sort of magic.
From Sand and Ash by Amy Harmon
Italy, 1943—Germany occupies much of the country, placing the Jewish population in grave danger during World War II.
As children, Eva Rosselli and Angelo Bianco were raised like family but divided by circumstance and religion. As the years go by, the two find themselves falling in love. But the church calls to Angelo and, despite his deep feelings for Eva, he chooses the priesthood.
Now, more than a decade later, Angelo is a Catholic priest and Eva is a woman with nowhere to turn. With the Gestapo closing in, Angelo hides Eva within the walls of a convent, where Eva discovers she is just one of many Jews being sheltered by the Catholic Church.
But Eva can’t quietly hide, waiting for deliverance, while Angelo risks everything to keep her safe. With the world at war and so many in need, Angelo and Eva face trial after trial, choice after agonizing choice, until fate and fortune finally collide, leaving them with the most difficult decision of all.
