Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. Today’s topic: Ten Characters Everyone Loves But I Just Don’t Get or Ten Characters I LOVE But Others Seem To Dislike.
Honestly I doubt I could come up with 10 for either list, but I want to share with you a few characters that everyone seems to love and I just don’t get. These are gonna be biggies so it makes up for it.
from the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling.
Now don’t get me wrong I don’t hate this character, I just don’t understand how everyone ships Hermione with Draco or Harry with Draco for that matter. He was written as the villain and to me, he’ll always be the villain. I don’t fall for villains. With that said keep in mind I have watched all the movies, but I have only read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
a.k.a The Darkling from The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo.
I have yet to find one person that agrees with me about this one. I just don’t get the love for this character – AT ALL. I have talked about him on many occasions and in each one I beg people to explain to me what it is about this character that people love so much. Yes, his life hasn’t been all cupcakes and unicorns but that doesn’t give him the right to turn into a complete power-hungry asshole.
from The Falling Kingdoms series.
So I’ve only read the first book, Falling Kingdoms but I was underwhelmed by his character. Maybe he gets better. Although he may seem like an antagonist, he is actually a misguided protagonist conflicted with mixed feelings. As it stands right now I just don’t get it.
from Carry On by Rainbow Rowell.
The only part I enjoyed about them as characters were their witty back and forth banter and their relationship. But that’s all they were. I need more than that.
from Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson.
Emily annoyed me so bad. I get that she missed Sloane, depended on Sloane and maybe even felt a bit lost without her, but dang she ended up having all these people rally behind her, helping her, loving her and she still couldn’t stop being so darn whiny and helpless.
Those are the characters that instantly come to mind when I think about characters I just don’t get. Draco and The Darkling especially I just don’t get. The others are meh I suppose. I am holding out hope for Magnus if and when I continue in the series. Simon, Baz, and Emily disappointed me, but for some reason people seem to love ’em.
