Character Like Me?
Today’s Top 5 Wednesday post is supposed to be Characters You Are Most Like. And when I sat down and thought about it, there are very few characters who I feel similar to. Maybe I could say Hermione is a bit like me as she does well in school, raises her hand in class a lot and overall is studious. I was definitely that way in school, well college. I’m definitely not slender and there are curvy females in literature (Eleanor from Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell) just none I think “hey, they’re like me”. I’m also shy when I first meet someone and then I am the jokester. Maybe everyone doesn’t understand my humor but my friends and family get me most of the time. I also worry a lot, care what other people think about me, get anxious over silly things, don’t like talking on the phone, hate meeting new people, get frustrated when things aren’t perfect, and love with my whole heart.
I’m a little bit lazy when I don’t want to do something. I’m a deep thinker with big dreams. I’m thoughtful, fair, Ms. Independent, selfless, candid, loyal, strong-willed, stubborn, observant, but I can also be distant, depressed, and difficult. I’d like to think I am brave but I’m probably not. I’ve had my fair share of “when life gives you lemons” moments. I am a woman. I am also a daughter, a sister, a wife, and a mother to two fur babies who I love dearly. I am a teacher and a friend. I love books and photography. I enjoy warm sunny days and hikes on long trails. My desk is usually messy, but my bookshelves are clean. I drink coffee every day, but hot tea when I’m not feeling well.
I have blonde hair and blue eyes. I’m short. I am a free-spirit with a knack for stepping outside the box. I am generous. I am a hard worker and sometimes overly sensitive. I hate when I am bored. I am adventurous and spontaneous. I’m insecure. I’m honest. And yeah, I’m always evolving. So this is me today.
Bilbo, The Hobbit – short, adventurous
Hermione, Harry Potter series – studious
Katniss, The Hunger Games – loyal, stubborn, strong-willed
Eleanor, Eleanor & Park – curvy, artistic
Blue, The Raven Cycle series – short, eccentric
Scarlet, The Lunar Chronicles – candid, loyal, selfless
Plum, Dietland – curvy, studious, deep thinker with big dreams, observant
Lucy, Cruel Beautiful World – free-spirit
Ginny, 13 Little Blue Envelopes – adventurous
So there are characters who have some of the same traits that I do, but there’s only one me. And I’m ok with that.
