Have you ever had this problem? Did you promise yourself you wouldn’t continue in a series because the previous book was so horrific it wasn’t worth your time? Did you then see the next book’s cover and literally drool?

Enter:

WindwitchWindwitch by Susan Dennard

The second book in The Witchlands series.

Expected publication: January 3rd, 2017 by Tor Teen.

The follow-up to New York Times bestselling Truthwitch, next in a breathtaking YA fantasy series hailed by Alexandra Bracken as “a world you will want to inhabit forever.”

On a continent ruled by three empires, some are born with a “witchery,” a magical skill that sets them apart from others.

In this follow-up to New York Times bestselling Truthwitch, a shadow man haunts the Nubrevnan streets, leaving corpses in his wake—and then raising those corpses from the dead.Windwitch continues the tale of Merik—cunning privateer, prince, and windwitch. (Goodreads)

So when I read Truthwitch earlier this year I was excited. To read about 2 female best friends that were witches sounded too good to be true. I really wanted to love the book, but the fact remains that I didn’t. I vowed I would not give into the hype and I would skip this series and focus my sights on other books, but then I saw this cover…..

Now I just don’t know (see book nerd problem #168 above). Luckily I have plenty of time to decide what I want to do because it is expected to release in January 2017.

Check out my Truthwitch review.

Maybe somehow I can unsee the crush-worthy cover and it won’t be a problem. Katie Spadafora asked on Goodreads “Is it just me, or are these covers trying to look like the “Falling Kingdoms” covers?” I didn’t enjoy Falling Kingdoms either. But the few who responded disagreed with the similarities. What do you think?

  • I totally agree with you! I hate to admit but I have bought some series based on the covers alone. Did I love the series? Not really, lol. I have a serious problem. I should think about the consequences more because now I have limited book space in my house and need to think about which I really want. As for the covers being similar to Falling Kingdoms, I guess I can see a small resemblance, but not too much. Maybe they’re by the same artist and that’s why it looks similar? Anyways, great discussion!

    • Bookshelf space is limited that’s for sure. Someone else mentioned maybe it was the same cover artist for both series. Thanks for stopping by!
