Book Cover Trend: SHIPS

Book Cover Trend SHIPS

If you missed my first book cover trend post (feathers) make sure to check that out. I mentioned there that I noticed another emerging trend, and I wanted to share it with you today. As the end of 2015 was coming to a close many book covers were revealed for 2016 and I kept noticing a theme. Did you take notice of all the ships popping up on covers? I’m curious if the trend will continue throughout the year. Ships have deep symbolism. They are mysterious, ominous, and haunting. They are an important vessel with a deep history. Plus pirates….need I say more? I think not. I’m not sure how the ships (and in one case the boat) ties into the story, but these Book Cover Trends aren’t about the stories. They are about the covers.

3. Unhooked by Lisa Maxwell

“What she really loved was to hang over the edge and watch the bow of the ship slice through the waves. She loved it especially when the waves were high and the ship rose and fell, or when it was snowing and the flakes stung her face.”

4. Passenger by Alexandra Bracken // 5. Blackhearts by Nicole Castroman

6. Never Never by Brianna R. Shrum

“I am a sailor, you’re my first mate
We signed on together, we coupled our fate
Hauled up our anchor, determined not to fail
For the heart’s treasure, together we set sail
With no maps to guide us, we steered our own course
Rode out the storms when the winds were gale force
Sat out the doldrums in patience and hope
Working together, we learned how to cope.
Life is an ocean and love it a boat
In troubled waters it keeps us afloat
When we started the voyage there was just me and you
Now gathered round us we have our own crew
Together we’re in this relationship
We built it with care to last the whole trip
Our true destination’s not marked on any chart
We’re navigating the shores of the heart”
― John McDermott
