August 2016 OwlCrate Subscription Box
“Fast Times at YA High”
This was my first OwlCrate box you guys. I was both happy and disappointed with it. First of all, there is no way I could have afforded this box had it not been for the coupon code they offered for first-time subscribers. I am already a loyal subscriber to Uppercase Box so adding a second monthly subscription right now is truly not cost effective for me. I think I will go for the September box though. Then I’ll have some big decisions to make.
Good news/bad news.
The good news is I adore the Eleanor & Park OwlCrate original necklace that was created just for this month’s box. The Harry Potter print illustrated by Susanne Draws and the Hogwarts button created by Taryn Draws are also highlights from this month’s box. Also getting a letter from the author, Kasie West was pretty darn cool.
Now the bad news. I already received this book in my August 2016 Uppercase subscription box. I think this is the third month this has happened (thankfully not to me), but it is unfortunate. The other things in this box while nice to have are not things I am particularly excited about either. So I am having conflicted feelings. I know Uppercase and OwlCrate have said they will each refund 50% of the retail price of the book should they send out the same book so I will be looking into doing that.
If you chose to look at the glass as half full, as I like to do in these situations, having two companies chose to send the same book means that both curators were excited about the book. That means there is a high probability that the book will be good.
Next month’s sneak peek!
